I have learned a lot of different lessons from my dad through the years.
But one of the greatest lessons I learned from my dad is persistence. In life, things can be complicated, and if we don’t learn the lesson of persistence, it is easy to skim over things in search of an easier answer.
My dad loves treasure hunting. It is in his DNA, I believe. Everywhere he goes, he sees the potential of a treasure being there. In this life, we need to be persistent in the things of God. We need to dig in to see the real treasure.
In 1848, the gold rush began in California, and people flocked to California with dreams of hitting it big and getting filthy rich with gold. Some of these people just panned for gold in streams or creeks, and of course, a few found some gold nuggets laying on the ground. But for others that really wanted to get rich, they were the ones that dug down in the earth to find the treasure of gold. However, that took persistence.
It’s so easy to give up when something takes effort. I have watched my dad, in his love for treasure hunting, walk for miles, or ride his bicycle. He will dig and incorporate the help of his family in digging as well. But the lesson of persistence is the greatest thing I have learned.
The same can be said about the Scriptures. We have people who skim through the pages looking for a little gold to get them by for a while, and we have some that do find scripture nuggets. But it’s those that dig deep in the Word of God that become rich.
Colossians 2:2-3 (TPT) I am contending for you that your hearts will be wrapped in the comfort of heaven and woven together into love’s fabric. This will give you access to all the riches of God as you experience the revelation of God’s great mystery—Christ. 3 For our spiritual wealth is in him, like hidden treasure waiting to be discovered—heaven’s wisdom and endless riches of revelation knowledge.
