Joshua 1:8 (ESV) “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.“
Psalms 1:1-2 (ESV) “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; (2) but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.“
In God’s Word there are instructions for Life, in fact His Word is Life. However, God is not going to force you to do anything, especially read His Word, but doesn’t it make sense to read His Word and live. And not just live but to live a prosperous and blessed life. At least to me it does. Yes, salvation is a free gift, However, a blessed and prosperous life is not. That kind of life is a choice. It is your choice. The thing about choice is, it is yours and not something someone else can do for you. When you make that choice to be blessed and prosperous, now that is a guarantee.
I just love guarantees, a promise, especially from someone that is trustworthy. People, now a days, are full of empty promises. And that to me hurts. This world is so full of people that will tell you something and it seems they must have their fingers crossed behind their backs as they are speaking. Words to them are just words, nothing important. But words are very important, especially to God. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. What do you do with your tongue? You speak.
John 1:1-4 (ESV) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. (4) In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
John 11:25-26 (ESV) “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, (26) and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Proverbs 18:21 (ESV) “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
People need to be more like what James says in the Book of James, we need to quick to hear, but slow to speak. We need to be intentional in our hearing and speaking. And this is something that I, myself here, is praying about and working on. If we are slow in hearing but quick to speak, we are like runners in a race with our eyes set on the finish line and not paying attention to anything or anyone else. When we do that, people get hurt and in some cases, people get destroyed. It is with our words that we kill, or we speak life.
James 1:19-20 (ESV) “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; (20) for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”
